Description

Training of a staff member of the Microbial Ecology Laboratory of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Havana (ME-UH) in the sampling and analysis of microplastics in water and sediments. ME-UH already has solid experience in the study of freshwater environmental microbiology in general and more specifically in antibiotic resistant bacteria isolated from freshwater ecosystems. Linking these studies to complementary fundamental and innovative environmental chemistry, such as the study of microplastics, is essential in order to be competitive on the research funding market. Indeed, there are many interactions between microplastics dynamic and microbial ecology, and these are poorly studied. By sharing its microplastics expertise with EM-UH, the laboratory of Analytical and Environmental Geochemistry lab (AMGC) of VUB thus initiates a first collaboration with University of Havana (Cuba), opening doors for applying for future funding’s.
