Data Protection In The World: India

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipating in or organizing a public lecture/debate

Description

The Brussels Privacy Hub is proud to launch the new “Data Protection in the World” event series. This series will focus on data protection in different parts of the world, to provide for a global comparative view on data protection. The first event will be a focus on India and will be held online on 28 March at 14:00 (CET). The Report on the Indian Personal Data Protection Bill was submitted to Parliament after two years of work. Compared to the initial forecast, the proposal covers not only personal data but all data types. This year, therefore, should be the year that one of the world's largest economies passes a data protection law. How much will the regulation be in line with the GDPR? Will it pave the way for a Commission adequacy decision? What do companies think of the proposed law? The webinar will be moderated by Vincenzo Tiani, our Programme & Dissemination Coordinator. Our Co-Director Prof. Gianclaudio Malgieri will give introductory remarks. Confirmed speakers are; Dr. Amar Patnaik, member of the Upper House of the Parliament of India and of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Personal Data Protection and the Finance Committee, Ivana Bartoletti, Chief Privacy Officer at WIPRO Bruno Gencarelli, EC, DG Justice and Consumers Malavika Jayaram, Digital Asia Hub, Berkman Klein Center, Harvard University
