Digital Humanities: A Strategic Partner for Historically Informed Music Practice

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Those of us who work with historical sources from any perspective or profile, i.e. as a
student, performer, musicologist, teacher, or even amateur musician, we all know the
difficulties involved in their study, understanding and practical application.
In my personal experience, the discovery of DH has opened up a fascinating field for the
dissemination, accessibility, study and understanding of music historical sources. The
road to shaping a collaborative project between DH and my speciality –early Italian basso
continuo– has not been an easy one, and that is precisely the experience I would like to
share with you.
By explaining the process step by step and describing the successful –and unsuccessful–
ideas, I wish my work to serve as an example, a motivation, or an inspiration to discover
the multidisciplinary potential of HD.
