Description

In June 2023, the European Commission will propose a new regulation for the use of New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) – such as genome editing – in plant breeding. This gives us, early-career scientists in Europe, a unique opportunity to help ensure evidence-informed policymaking rewarding the incredible work of European plant researchers to contribute to sustainable agriculture. Therefore, two early-career researcher initiatives, GeneSprout Initiative, and Öko-Progressives Netzwerk e.V., supported by the science-based environmental NGO RePlanet, are organizing a joint Give Genes a Chance campaign event for early-career researchers in Europe. With this event, we want to empower early-career scientists as stakeholders in European policymaking.

The Give Genes a Chance campaign event will take place on the 25th of March 2023 at SQUARE in Brussels, the European capital. For the whole Brussels experience, we’ll meet on the night of the 24th for an informal get-together in the bars of Brussels. The official campaign event will start at 9:30 a.m. on the 25th of March, where you will be able to take part in workshops that focus on skill training and information exchange. These workshops, given by experts in the fields of science communication, lobbying, and political advocacy, will inspire you to communicate science to not only politicians but also to the general public. Exchanging skills, experiences, and perspectives between experts and participants will be central throughout the day. We’ll end with a reception where you can network with all experts and participants.
