Mapping housing insecurity. A reflection on the practice of mapping as a tool to bring together researchers and housing activists and to set an agenda for the right to housing in Brussels

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

Presented as part of Geographies of Housing and Home. Global Perspectives, on August 28 2024 at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Annual International Conference on ‘Mapping’ taking place at the Society and Imperial College London. The occasion for this reflection was the organization of a workshop titled ‘Mapping housing insecurity and residential markets dynamics’ organized, as part of the Brussels Studies Institute/Citydev chair, led by Professor Raquel Rolnik on March 21st.

This contribution drew on a mapping exercise in a specific setting as a methodological approach to knowledge within actor networks. An impressionistic mixing of knowledge and themes enabled a form of critical monitoring, intersecting situated, lived, and academic knowledge about Brussels. This approach served as a method for generating hypotheses, linking processes, impressions, and emotions that could inform further research and build momentum for agenda-setting.
