Parcel delivery reorganization for decarbonation of urban freight: a case study in Brussels

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

The goal of this research is to assess environmental impacts of a decarbonation initiative for urban parcel logistics for a metropolitan area. By assessing the environmental impact of such organization, we show the operational feasibility of the decarbonation of letters and parcels deliveries in the city of Brussels. Through an original case study based on a postal company’s datasets applied firstly on a ZIP code scale, we are assessing the efficiency and the relevance of an emission free last mile. Brussels centre is composed by the historic centre, administrative and economic centre, and royal and port areas in the north part. This new organization is driven by (1) consolidation of letters and parcel in same rounds, (2) implementation of a dense network of automate distributors and pick up and drop off points, (3) implementation of electric cargo bikes (4) electrification of vehicles fleet.
