Role of ferroptosis in radiation-induced cell death.

Activity: Talk or presentation › Talk or presentation at a conference

Description

Radioresistance, mainly due to a hypoxic tumor environment, remains a hurdle in the field of radiotherapy (RT). Recently, it has been confirmed that RT triggers ferroptosis, a type of regulated cell death (RCD), alongside the already well-established forms of RCD (apoptosis and necroptosis). The exact contribution of ferroptosis within RT-induced RCD is unclear. Previous findings demonstrated that sulfasalazine, a known ferroptosis inducer (FIN), enhanced radiosensitivity in two hypoxic human colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines1. Consequently, this study aims to elucidate the importance of ferroptosis in RT-induced RCD.
