Description

Apart from Visiting Research Fellow @VUB (August – October 2018) and Associate Professor of research methods in social science, dr. Anne Tjønndal (Nord University – Norway) is also an active competitive boxer (over 50 matches, silver medal in the 2017 national women’s championship and national champion in 2016) and licensed Olympic coach. Her research interests include gender and relations of power in sport, research methodology in social science, coach-athlete relationships and coach leadership.

During her stay in Brussels, Anne is going to

  • organize boxing workshops for women and girls in Brussels boxing clubs with the purpose to voice women’s perspectives on inclusion and exclusion, and this by using participatory and collaborative method;
  • conduct a literature review on the impact of protective headgear (both from a medical and pedagogical perspective), which can lead to a scientific publication and interdisciplinary project proposal with the involved VUB research groups; and
  • provide a PhD seminar on research methods (discourse/narrative analysis).

 

This boxing clinic is organized by VUB research groups Sport & Society (SASO), Voicing at-risk youth (VOIC), Human Physiology (MFYS); and supported by the Brussels Centre for Urban Studies (BCUS).
