Description

This dataset contains an an open-source list of Chinese Lexical Indicators of News Values (LINV), developed by J. Guo (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) to enrich non-English linguistic resources and facilitate further computer-assisted discursive news values analyses of Chinese newspaper data.

The data accompany two papers:

Guo, J., Mast, J., Vosters, R., Yang, W., & Penso, A. (2022). Convergence or divergence? A computer-assisted analysis of how Chinese state-sponsored and market-oriented newspapers discursively construct the newsworthiness of the Kunming terrorist attack. Discourse, Context & Media, 45(100578). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dcm.2022.100578

Guo, J., Mast, J., & Vosters, R. (2024). When Socialism Meets Terrorism: A Computer-Assisted Discursive News Values Analysis of Chinese Newspapers’ Coverage of Domestic and International Terrorist Attacks. Mass Communication and Society, 27(6), 1495–1528. https://doi.org/10.1080/15205436.2024.2311225

More information on the procedure followed to arrive at these lists if lexical indicators of news values can be found in both publications.
