These datasets accompanies the book chapter: "Dutch prescriptivism in a historical-sociolinguistic perspective. Measuring the effect of institutionalized prescriptivism", in the Routledge handbook of Linguistic Prescriptivism (2023, Eds: Joan C. Beal, Morana Lukač, Robin Straaijer).

The datasets cover two linguistic features in Dutch:

The spelling of long /a/ in closed syllables
The spelling of final /t/ in d-stem verbs
The data span the Northern and Southern Netherlands (1550–1850).

For each feature, the datasets include:

Normative data: Explicit and implicit prescriptions, along with metadata on the corresponding grammarians.
Usage data: Observations from the Historical Corpus of Dutch.
