MAXQDA-Coded Translation Choices in Media Coverage of the JCPOA

Description

This MAXQDA file contains excerpts (N= 70) related to media coverage of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) from 2015 to 2020. Each excerpt includes the original English discourse fragment, its corresponding translated discourse fragment in Persian (extracted from the Iranian newspaper, Kayhan), and a back translation into English. The dataset shows the differences between the original and translated discourse, containing 1162 coded segments of various translation choices made by the newspaper.

Abstract

This MAXQDA file contains excerpts (N= 70) related to media coverage of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) from 2015 to 2020. Each excerpt includes the original English discourse fragment, its corresponding translated discourse fragment in Persian (extracted from the Iranian newspaper, Kayhan), and a back translation into English. The dataset highlights the differences between the original and translated discourse, with 1162 coded instances of translation strategies. These coded segments offer insights into the translation choices made by the newspaper in the context of international diplomacy and conflict. (2024)
