Organisation profile

Organisation profile

The department STRA does research in three different fields: the general principles of criminal law, the procedural law and the various crimes, both in the general Criminal Code and in the specific criminal statutes. The study group pursues this research not only by publishing articles or books, but also by giving lectures both in Belgium and abroad. In recent years, the research has been more and more oriented towards the problems that arise from the application of the 'classic' criminal and procedural law to various types of economic activities, in the broader sense of this terminology. Thus, studies have been undertaken - or are as yet in progress - concerning corporate criminal liability, financial research, money laundering, confiscation of illegal assets, and so on. Most members of the study group are actively involved in different scientific journals, and are also member/chairman of various national and international scientific organisations.
