Organisation profile

About us

The VUB has a long-standing tradition in AI and robotics. The AI Lab was founded in 1983 and from the start it focused on embodied AI, systems that sense their environment and can take actions autonomously. In FLAIR, the Robotics group from the Mechanics department joins the AI Lab to together develop the next generation of AI, machine learning and robotics techniques which will be used by industry and other research fields alike. Together, we explore crossdisciplinary ideas in fundamental research projects which can then materialise in applied projects or spinoffs. Topics include reinforcement learning, evolution of language, computational creativity, human-centered robotics, computational biology and knowledge representation.
