Organisation profile

Organisation profile

The general area of semiconductors and related materials used in Information and Communication Technology. LAMI's research includes semiconductor physics and technology, semiconductor electronic, optoelectronic and photonic devices and circuits, technology for biofluidics, millimeter wave technology and systems and artificial living systems. 1) Optoelectronics Semiconductor physics, devices and technology related to III-V materials for infrared applications: infrared modulators, infrared detectors, radial polarisers, folded optoelectronics, optoelectronic control of millimeter wave components, 3D camera. 2) Millimeter Waves (30 to 300 GHz) Active mm wave imaging, industrial sensors, antenna arrays, multilayer thin film technology, optoelectronic control of mm wave components, quasi optical elements, material characterization including meta materials by means of vectorial spectroscopy in the mm wave range, antenna (array) characterization, frequency selective services 3) Analog Circuit Design 3D Camera: Range finding, Time Of Flight, real time 3D Imaging, CMOS sensors, image detectors, modulators, suppression of ambient light. 4) Living Systems (EVOL) Living Systems research primarily addresses the ways in which organisms process information as an aid to survival. In many ways their techniques far surpass those which are currently available to us through the use of digital computers; for example in pattern recognition, or in the integration or fusion of multisensory and multiscalar information. A prime target is to understand the relationships between living processes and contextual awareness. The ultimate aim of this research is to establish criteria which will make it possible at the very least to implement lifelike processing in machines, and hopefully ultimately to generate consciousness in machines. 5) Technology Services for biofluidics.
