Organisation profile

Organisation profile

The Research Group of Microbiology performs research in the fields of molecular microbiology and microbial biotechnology. Research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the lifestyle and physiology of a variety of microorganisms (archaea, bacteria, fungi, mycorrhiza), with a longstanding expertise in the study of extremophiles. Molecular mechanisms underlying the response of microorganisms to changing environmental conditions (nutritional conditions or stress) are unraveled with a focus on gene regulation. Fundamental insights are used in the development of biotechnological applications in the context of a transition to a more sustainable biobased economy and industry.
