About us
The Molecular Imaging and Therapy (MITH) Research Group is a multidisciplinary team focused on the development, preclinical validation and clinical translation of targeted drugs for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, mainly based on Single-Domain Antibody technology. The three overarching application domains are diagnostic nuclear imaging, targeted radionuclide therapy and intraoperative imaging. MITH relies on extensive expertise in protein engineering, radiochemistry, in vivo preclinical imaging, image processing and analysis, and GMP-certified production of biological medicines for clinical use.
The process starts with the development of single-domain antibodies targeting various disease-related receptors within the Vector Development Unit, which focuses on protein expression in E. coli or P. pastoris, followed by purification and validation systems, and is also equipped with its own cGMP clean room facility for small-scale production. The Radiochemistry Unit is specially equipped to work safely with different types of medical radioisotopes, with access to a GMP-compliant radiopharmacy and an on-site cyclotron for routine production of radiopharmaceuticals.
MITH also runs the In vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging core facility, housing various preclinical imaging modalities specialised in nuclear and optical imaging of small animals, equipped with multi-modality cameras and ex vivo analysis techniques to study tracer biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, dosimetry and therapeutic efficacy, as well as an intravital microscopy unit for microscopic imaging of living cells in their true environment.
