Organisation profile

The Department of Sociology is responsible for research and education in the field of Sociology. It is home to the research group BRISPO: Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies that conducts research on the socio-economic, cultural and demographic dimensions of social inequality primarily focusing on Belgium and Europe, while also considering a broader global perspective. BRISPO was established in 2024 through the merger of several research groups, including Interface Demography (ID) and Tempus Omnia Revelat (TOR). This led to the creation of a diverse and multidisciplinary team composed of both senior scholars and early-stage researchers with a background in sociology, demography, economics, psychology, statistics and human geography. BRISPO team members actively engage in the scientific and wider valorisation of their research by helping to shape public policies and contributing to the broader societal debate on the most pressing and current social challenges.
