Aruna Michiels is a Ph.D. researcher at the European University Institute, Florence (It) under the supervision of Prof. Joanne Scott (EUI). The doctoral project focuses on the European Union’s humanitarian aid policy in the security-development nexus and applies a socio-legal methodological approach.

Aruna holds a Master in International and European Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Her research interests range from International Humanitarian Law to International Relations and European Foreign Policy.  

Aruna is an External Fellow with the International and European Law section at the VUB. She is also a member of the Belgian Society for International Lawand the Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP) network.
