Expertise

I founded the Community Ecology Lab at VUB in 2014. The main goal of our research group is to try to understand which processes can explain species distributions and abundances over different scales. For this we use experiments, field survey data and global biodiversity databases. We often but not exclusively use animals as model organisms.

Active research lines include work on:

1. Habitat selection in animals, mainly with mosquitoes as model organisms

2. Spatial ecology and biogeography

3. Island ecology with ancient terrestrial islands as model systems

4. Applied ecology with work on pollination of cacao

More information about the lab can be found on our website www.insularecology.com

Information about our work on cacao can be found on www.cacaopollination.com
