Expertise
I am an assistant professor of English Literature at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. I am the author of Modernism, Material Culture and the First World War (2023), which was awarded the 2025 BCLA First Book prize, and a co-editor of The Edinburgh Companion to First World War Periodicals (2023), which was awarded the 2024 ESPRit Research prize. I am also the principal investigator on the ERC-funded AFROPRESS project: my team and I are currently exploring the global ambitions of Sub-Saharan Africa's literary, cultural and political magazines in the period 1918-68.
In 2024 I was elected to the Flemish Young Academy and I currently also serve as editor-in-chief of the Journal of European Periodical Studies. Before joining VUB, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo, Yale University and Ghent University.
