Degefaye Zelalem Anlay is a doctoral researcher affiliated with the End-of-Life Care Research Group at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Nurse and pharmaceutical research group, University of Antwerp. Degefaye earned his master's degree in Epidemiology from the University of Antwerp in 2021. His research focusses on deprescribing of medications at the end of life. Using big data, his project looks to measure the effect of changes in medication use (i.e. initiation of beneficial medications and deprescribing of medications with questionable benefits) on quality of life, mortality, and morbidity at the end of life in a cohort of nursing home residents with limited life expectancy.
