Diete Humblet (°09/08/1988) holds a Master's Degree in Law (University of Antwerp, 2010) and a Master’s Degree in Criminological Sciences (Ghent University, 2012). Since 2013, Diete Humblet is a member of the Department of Criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She has been part of the research programme 'Human rights in situations of (extreme) dependency', which aimed to analyse the dynamics of relations of (extreme) institutional dependency and the influence of human rights standards and legislation on these relations. Under the supervision of Prof. dr. S. SNACKEN, she has obtained her Ph.D. on ‘The Meaning of Imprisonment in Later Life’, funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). To date, she is affiliated as a postdoctoral researcher to the research group ‘Crime and Society’ (CriS) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and is partially affiliated as a researcher to the centre of expertise on older adult care (EXP-O) at the university college Odisee.

Her first main interest and research field covers integrated interdisciplinary research about subject matters of high social, legal, ethical, and medical pertinence. Special interest goes out to individuals who are spending the later stages of their life in prison.
