Expertise

Master’s degree in Criminological Sciences & Gender and Diversity. Specialized in the Belgian prison system and social positions (intersectional approach) of individuals in a given society and culture.

Expertise that grew into a passion for the international prison system and membership at the European Movement for Detention Houses: RESCALED. First by doing a 6 months internship at ‘RESHAPE’ in Portugal (Portuguese partner of RESCALED), and later on by working at RESCALED and Vzw De Huizen (Belgian partner of RESCALED).

Currently working as a researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. As project coordinator, doing research in the two new Belgian prisons of Haren and Dendermonde. Therefore using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) method where mutual involvement, cooperation, and empowerment of different stakeholders (including incarcerated persons) are key aspects.

Also active as a project officer within the Prison Talk project, of Bond zonder Naam. Here, we work with ex-incarcerated persons to raise awareness and reflect on how our society deals with deprivation of liberty and reintegration.
