Expertise
ELLEN DEBACKERE studied history at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She completed her PhD in 2016 at the University of Antwerp and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her doctoral thesis examines local migration policies towards non-nationals in the city of Antwerp during the formative years of the newly established Belgian kingdom, from the 1830s to the 1880s. Since October 2019, she is appointed as a part-time teaching assistant and guest lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
