Hanne Bakelants is a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where she is affiliated with both the End-of-Life Care Research Group and the Society and Ageing Research Lab (SARLab).

She obtained her master’s degree in Educational Sciences from the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in 2019. After graduation, Hanne started her doctorate in Social Health Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in October 2020. Since January 2025, Hanne has continued her work as a postdoctoral researcher, investigating how Compassionate Communities can take shape within schools and workplaces. Her approach is grounded in participatory methods, including ripple effects mapping, participant observation, and developmental evaluation.
