Expertise

Janek obtained a Master's degree in law from the University of Antwerp in 2008 and an LL.M in European Law from King's College London in 2009. He did an internship at the Court of Justice of the European Union and then became an assistant at the Institute for European Law of KU Leuven in 2010. In 2016, Janek joined the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law as a Research Fellow. After defending his PhD thesis, he became a lawyer at the Brussels Bar in 2021, where he focuses on EU law and litigation. Since May 2022, Janek is also visiting professor of civil procedural law and private international law at the VUB.

Janek has expertise in EU law (institutional law, administrative law, free movement law, competition law/antitrust law, procedural law), EU court procedure, international dispute resolution (including cross-border collective redress), comparative civil procedure, cartel damages, consumer protection law, and Belgian public law. His PhD thesis on Ex officio application of EU law by Belgian civil courts was awarded the Fernand Collin Prize 2022.
