Dr. Jordi Bruggeman (°1986) is an archaeologist. He obtained his PhD in art history and archaeology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2024. His dissertation is entitled "Chinees en Japans porselein in het zuiden van de Nederlanden (16de - 19de eeuw): een archeologische en historische benadering met focus op het huidige Vlaanderen" (EN: Chinese and Japanese porcelain in the southern Netherlands (16th - 19th century): an archaeological and historical approach with a focus on present-day Flanders). He specializes in the typology, dating, supply, influence by and of other material objects and the consumption of Chinese and Japanese porcelain. Important topics in his research are the changing consumer culture, including the rise of the consumption of exotic hot beverages and social competition. His research focuses on a holistic approach, using written and iconographic sources in addition to material sources (archaeological and museum collections).
