Biography

Kim Beernaert (°1986) is a postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and chair of the “Palliative care for people with cancer” Research Programme at the End-of-Life Care Research Group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) & Ghent University. She has a master’s degree in experimental and theoretical psychology and a PhD degree in (Social) Health Sciences (2015). Her research has been awarded with different prizes including the Prijs Hoge Gezondheidsraad 2016.

Her main focus of interest is improving the palliative care and end of life care for for people with cancer and their families, including a focus on minors.

She has experience with conducting and analysing various methodologies: qualitative interviews/focus groups, cross-sectional surveys, population-based studies, using administrative datasets, (cluster) randomized controlled trials and implementation.

She is supervising different projects related to palliative care with main focus on integration of palliative care, and on people with cancer, babies and children. Kim is eager to vulgarize her scientific output and to work together with relevant stakeholders.
