M. Sadiq Kakar is currently a Ph.D. Researcher at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefaan SMIS (VUB). Sadiq holds two master's degrees, an LLM from the International Islamic University, Islamabad Pakistan, and a master's degree in Islamic and Religious Sciences from Jamia Binoria International, Karachi Pakistan. After he graduated from IIUI, he joined the District Bar Association, Islamabad, and worked as an Advocate High Court in litigation for five years. He also worked as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Law, Faculty of Shari’ah & Law, at IIUI from January 2017 to December 2020.

The provisional title of his dissertation is: “Assessment of Capital Punishment in Pakistan: Special Reference to Shari’ah and International Human Rights Law”. His objective is to assess the abolishment of capital punishment and discuss its possibilities for Muslim states, particularly Pakistan. His research focuses on Shari’ah (Islamic law), Human Rights Law, International Law, and particularly the analysis of human rights violations in Muslim countries.
