Prof. dr. Tom Deliens (°13/09/1984) graduated in 2008 as Master in Physical Education and Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and obtained his PhD in Movement and Sport Sciences at the same institution in 2016, with a doctoral thesis on "Body weight and energy balance related behaviours among university students”. Tom is appointed dr. assistant since 2016 and assistant professor since 2017 at the Department of Movement and Sport Sciences (BESW) and the Department of Physiotherapy, Human Physiology and Anatomy (KIMA) of the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy (LK) at VUB. He is teaching courses in Research Methodology and Statistics in both Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences. Tom is lead and co-investigator on various observational and experimental research projects focused on nutrition, physical activity and health promotion. A major focus of his research is on critical life transition periods and their impact on body composition and energy balance related behaviour. Next to research linking nutrition to chronic pain, and energy balance related behaviour to mental health, he is also involved in research on economic evaluations of worksite health promotion. Since 2020, he is member of the expert panel of the prevention committee of Kom op tegen Kanker.
