Expertise

Vincenzo Tiani focuses on privacy and personal data protection, intellectual property, and media law.

Since 2015, he has been living in Brussels where he obtained an LL.M in IP and ICT Law, deepening his understanding of new technology law.

He first worked at the European Parliament, focusing on European Copyright reform, and then at EDRi, the NGO European Digital Rights that protects the fundamental rights of citizens online.

Since 2017 he has been writing regularly for various publications such as Wired, Vice, Sole 24 Ore, La Repubblica, StartupItalia, Domani, about European digital policies.

Since 2018 he has been an Adjunct Professor at IULM University in Milan where he teaches copyright and data protection. This position is complemented by further lectures in companies and training courses and the activity of speaker in festivals and panels on new technologies law.

In 2019 he worked as EU Affairs Analyst for CDT, Center for Democracy & Technology, an international organization that protects fundamental rights online and works to keep the Internet free and innovative.

Vincenzo is since 2018 Member of Hermes Center for Transparency and Digital Human Rights, an Italian NGO for which he follows European legislative developments and their impact on fundamental rights online.

In spring 2020, he was appointed to the Ministry of Innovation’s Data Task Force to assess the data protection impact of Covid’s contact tracing apps.

Since October 2020 he is Resident Partner of PANETTA Law Firm in Brussels, where he represents the Firm.

He also hosts the podcast Panetta Tech News, in which he delves into issues related to new technology law, commenting on the latest news or discussing them with distinguished guests.

Since 2022, he is a Ph.D candidate at the VUB University of Brussels and Programme & Dissemination Coordinator of the Brussels Privacy Hub for which he researches the topics of artificial intelligence and personal data protection. He is also an adjunct professor at the EDHEC Business School in Lille (France), where he teaches Digital Law and Data Regulation.

Since 2022 he has also been External Advisor on AI and Digital issues for the office of MEP Brando Benifei, co-rapporteur of the AI Act.
