Expertise
Yana Demeyere is a teaching assistant and PhD candidate. She holds a master’s degree in Criminology (VUB, 2018), and has research interests in police, family criminology and youth criminology. For her Master’s thesis, Yana examined community policing in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). In 2018, she worked at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on a project called: ‘Voicing diversity’, which examines the role and function of police officers from a migration background in strengthening police legitimacy with ethnic minority groups. Currently, she is doing a doctoral research on the lived experiences of family members experiencing child-to-parent violence.
