Ageism in Prison

Project Details

Description

This project will for the first time empirically investigate how ageism is
manifested in prison in Belgium. On the basis of emerging
methodological techniques, it will be analysed how key actors in
prison perceive, experience and practice ageism. These key actors
are older prisoners, prison officers and members of the psychosocial
service. The research will moreover explore differences between,
and within, both actors and prisons on this topic. The research will
theoretically and methodologically contribute to the field of critical
penological and gerontological studies.
