An analysis of the language situation in the Flemish border around Brussels

Project Details

Description

One of the spearheads in the BRIO research remains the language barometer, a scientific monitoring instrument developed by BRIO sociologist Rudi Janssens. It is a unique and extensive survey (2,500 respondents) to map language use in a scientific manner.

The BRIO language barometer study has developed into a valued scientific project that is used not only in Flanders but also in various foreign universities as teaching material and as a basis for research projects or as an illustration of 'social impact research'. The previous language barometers about Brussels (2001, 2007, 2013 and 2018) and the Rand (2014 and 2019) also enjoyed wide coverage in the domestic and foreign press and were awarded the prize for the best language publication of the year 2013 by 'De Taalsector'.
