Project Details
Description
The focus of this exploratory project is to conduct a controlled study investigating psychological functioning in children refered for adenotonsillectomy. It is known that children presenting with hypertrophy of the tonsils and/or adenoids frequently have nocturnal apnoeic episodes. However, little is known about the neuropsychological status of these children and the possible improvement of their neuropsychological status after a surgical intervention. This study will investigate both cognitive and behavioral aspects of psychological functioning in these children, before and after the surgery. Possible deficits will be related to the degree of the adenoid hypertrophyand somnolence problem. This is a common project of following research units within the department of psychology: PSON, GEPS and ORPV under the heading 'Clinical Health'.
