Description

Although current treatment approaches have significantly improved outcome, multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable. Thus, further (pre)clinical evaluation of new agents is needed. Histone deacetylase and DNA methyltransferase inhibitors are 2 classes of epigenetic modifying agents in early clinical development in MM. However, the exact mechanisms of action of these agents remain poorly understood. Objectives are to investigate the mechanisms by which these epigenetic-modulating agents mediate anti-MM effects both in vitro and in vivo, where the cells are protected by the BM niche. A better understanding of the cellular response to epigenetic-targeted treatments will provide potential therapeutic advances.
