Brussels Centre for Urban Studies (BCUS)

The Brussels Centre for Urban Studies (BCUS) is one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe and brings together researchers from across the social sciences, humanities and engineering. BCUS aims to increase the visibility of VUB urban research and develops and supports inter- and transdisciplinary research projects in the domain of urban studies. BCUS also stimulates networking between various VUB research groups and between VUB researchers and international and local networks. The research orientation is global, but particular attention is paid to urban dynamics in Europe and of Brussels. BCUS also offers a unique platform to realize synergies between research and education due to the involvement of various members in the VUB-ULB MSc in Urban Studies. And the recent move of BCUS to the new VUB-ULB campus site USquare creates multiple opportunities to further increase the critical mass of urban research capacity, specifically in relation to civic engagement and science valorisation.
