BRUTUS, or Brussels Tutors for Students, is a tutoring project in which students from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (the tutors) guide small groups of pupils (the tutees), usually underprivileged, immigrant and/or non-Dutch-speaking pupils from Brussels Dutch-speaking secondary education, in their learning process so that their chances of learning increase and they can eventually move on to higher education. This guidance takes place weekly at school, but after school hours. BRUTUS was created in 2006. It was initially inspired by the Schola project of the ULB, founded in 1989, but BRUTUS put its own emphasis and reworked the concept. In the meantime, an intense collaboration between the Schola and BRUTUS came into being, in which tutors are exchanged across the language boundary.
