Description

The overall project goal was to support the improvement of environmental and natural resources management in Vietnam. The primary aim was to catalyse the development of the scientific basis of environmental impact assessment . The project also aimed to strengthen environmental education at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
The environmental assessment effort proved particularly successful. It resulted in the development and co- publication of the 3 EIA guideline books and a GIS based spatial analysis of land cover change to support the execution of a Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Master Development Plan of Ha Long City in Quang Ninh province (1994-2010). In all, a series of 6 EIA stakeholder workshops have been organised.
In environmental education, substantial results were achieved in curriculum upgrading, publication of 5 student textbooks and the implementation of an EC-scholarship scheme.
