Clinical, kinematic and dynamic evaluation of the effect of the functional peroneal stimulator on the gait pattern of MS-patients with foot drop.

Project Details

Description

In patients with MS suffering from paresis of the foot extensors, the effect of a functional peroneal stimulator on the gait paatern will be examined: (1) by means of a 3D kinematic analysis with the VICON system, (2) by means of plantar foot pressure measurements with the footscan system, (3) by means of a subjective gait analysis scale (following Perry) and (4) the subjective appreciation by the patients will be evaluated with a questionnaire?. In this comparative study thedifferences of the gait pattern will be analysed while walking without and with the functional stimulator. Thereby, 3 triggering systems will be studied: EMG-, heel contact- and forefoot contact triggering. The combination of the objective and subjective data will enable us to form a funded opinion on the functional quality of the electrical stimulator in this patient population and will able us to detect possible shortcomings that need remediation.
