Description
Crossing Wires – Technology & Challenges for Democracy is a public event in Brussels that unites technology, democracy, and political science. Led by the Brussels Institute for Advanced Studies (BrIAS) and Ohme, this edition aims to bring together researchers, artists, students, young people, and local residents through interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, interdisciplinary performances, and participatory installations.
The goal? To make the impact of technology on our democracy tangible—think digital privacy, social media, AI, and algorithms—while simultaneously stimulating critical thinking, civic engagement, and democratic engagement. The event targets 600 to 1,000 Brussels residents (300 to 500 per day), with a special focus on young people, students, artists, scientists, and local residents.
The requested support from Innoviris covers approximately one-third of the total costs and focuses on the public-facing component, the STEM component, and the contribution to Brussels' science culture. The funds will be used for, among other things, compensation for speakers and artists, coordination, the co-production of an interactive installation as a tool to translate science to a broad audience, educational workshops, and practical support to reach schools, young people, and local communities in a targeted manner. - vertaald met google translate
