Description

Integrated circuits for millimeter wave applications are traditionally realized using III-V compound technologies such as GaAs and InP. This is mainly due to the availability of fast transistors and the high resistivity of the substrate.
CMOS technology on the other hand offers the possibility to realize a system-on-a chip, and the ever increasing scaling has allowed obtaining transistors that are fast enough to operate in the mm-wave region.
The main goal of this work is to determine which design methods are best suited for a design in this grey area, where neither the classical CMOS nor the distributed design rules are clearly applicable. In this work, we will try to come up with rules of thumb that allow a designer to obtain a circuit that is right from the first time on.
