Development of a greening package within the Flemish Environmental Management System for secondary schools

The Flemish Environmental Department and the Human Ecology Department (VUB) developed a Environmental Care System for primary and secondary schools in Flanders. This system consists of several packages, each focussing on a specific aspect of environmental care (e.g. water, waste, energy, ...). During the current project, the Human Ecology Department developed the package for greening the school and its immediate environment. Starting from providing basic knowledge on the links between greening and the environment, a sensitisation chapter describes how different stakeholders can be involved in a greening project. Based on a survey, specific measures are selected and implemented. To help the selection of appropriate measures, possible measures are described and illustrated.
