Development of an optical system for high resolution print heads

Project Details

Description

This project concerns the development of a next generation electrophotographic image reproduction system for digital colour presses. Compared to the system used in the present digital presses, the new writing head will have a resolution of at least 1200 dpi (double of the present resolution) and must be able to print two times faster (50 cm/sec) than the current system. Aimed as a high performance writing head, drawbacks of the current writing head will be tackled by using new concepts. In this context lens defects (up to 50% of the purchased quantity for 600 dpi are rejected) will be solved by a new design. High efficiency LED's and high-speed drivers are required for the needed speed. The new design of the print head which stands for a higher print quality at a lower cost also necessitates the research and development of new software. Special attention will be paid to RASP (reliability, availability, serviceability, and producebility) in the over whole system.
