Effects of a memory training for the elderly. A case study for social-intervention research.

Project Details

The department of social gerontology, under the leadership of Professor Ponjaert, has developed a memory course for the elderly. This course has been developed over several years and has been applied several times. In 1992 a book concerning the memory of elderly people was published. In 1998 a guideline for the practical application of these courses was published. The next phase in the evolution of our knowledge about this theme, requires a scientific fundament for these gerontagogic courses. Within this research project, we want to explore the effects of a memory training for the elderly with regard to their perception of their memory, their meta-memory, their weel-being and their self-esteem. A pretest-posttest follow-up study will be used. The effects will be measured by questionaires. Those questionnaires will also be analysed with regard to their psychometric qualities.
