Epidemiology, risk factors of sport injuries in FLanders. A sport specific injury detection and prevention program.

    Project Details

    Description

With the increasing promotion of a physically active lifestyle and recreational activities among tha general population we can also expect an increased number of sport injuries. Athletes, trainers and coaches see the need for injury prevention in sports. The promotion of injury prevention should take athletes, parents and coaches to a higher consciousness of the measures to prevent injury. There exists the need for determining and understanding the sports injuries and the related risk factors. Several predictive factors will be detected in an early stage and will be corrected. This way many (talented) atheletes are getting the opportunity to develop to their maximal capacity without any injuries. only the latest years a few studies are conducted on collecting information of sport injuries (prevalence and risk factors). Using these and supplementary results we can formulate possible prevention programs. This makes it possible to better protect our athletes against injuries.
