The project concerns a research on the opinion of the inhabitants of the Ivory Coast concerning restorative justice. On the one hand it will be examined through participative observation and interview whether elements of restorative justice are present in the customary law of the Mande, as well as which opinion Mande living in a rural environment, formulate concerning the official penal system. On the other hand, as no elements of restorative justice are present nowaddays in the penal code and the code of prosecution of the Ivory Coast, the opinion of judges, prosecutors and policemen in Abidjan concerning principles of restorative justice in customary law, will be studied, using interviews and surveys. Based on the obtained data, the possibility of an integration of elements of customary justice into the official penal system will finally be studied.
