In recent years our research unit developed a new detection principle for gamma rays. This detection principle can be applied in Positron Emission Tomography to improve the resolution or the sensitivity of the instrument. We have designed and built a prototype of a small high resolution PET scanner using this new principle. The present project aims to evaluating this prototype detector with technical tests and with a number of realistic biomedical research applications.
