Description
This project aims at designing, developing, testing and implementing new coherent light sources for (short distance) datacommunication systems. The research will be conducted at the Universtiy of Ghent and at the Vrije Universteit Brussel, on three levels: the material level (using GalnNAs/GaAs), new structures (Special Vertical Cavity Serface Emitting Lasers) and new 'specialty' mechanisms. It is the purpose of the promotors to reach efficienties and prices that are competitive with the present-day InP side emitting laser diodes.
