Identification and regulation of beta cell phenotypes with therapeutic potential

Project Details

Description

Objective
Identification and regulation of beta cell phenotypeswith therapeutic potential.
Finding should help
-assess functional beta cell mass in isolated preparations
-select donor cells and perform quality control tests on beta cell grafts
-generate and preserve beta cells in the laboratory
-histo(patho)logic analysis of beta cells in the human pancreas
-define condotions for composition and preservation of a functional beta cell mass.
Specific aims
I. Characterization of phenotypes in the life cycle of beta cells
II Phenotyping human beta cells
III Regulation of beta cell phenotypes by nutrients and peptides
IV Comparison of primary beta cells with cells generated from stem/precursor cells and from transdifferentiated cells.
